There is no dearth of books that have been written on the last day of a person's life. Some give a detailed account of how it unfolded, while others take a philosophical view. There is one book that stands out from all the rest due to its unique content and its novel approach. The title of this book is "37 Days", and it gives an account of how life would have been if everything had gone as planned for each individual person, instead of as it actually did. In this book, the author has described how people react under different conditions as well as what they do in those exact situations. The book is based on 37 days, the last day of the author's life, which was also his 37th day of marriage to his wife. On this morning, he was supposed to leave for work but instead he saw his wife dying after a sudden attack of epilepsy. The author has narrated how he has come to terms with losing her not only as a wife but also as a person. He chronicles his reactions and subsequent thoughts over these 37 days, giving an account of how this would have been different if everything had gone as planned. The title for this book "37 Days" is derived from the fact that it takes place on the last day that each individual can do something before they die or even take their last breath. The word "days" is used to signify that there are 37 days in a person's life; it does not mean that these 37 days would be the last ones. The author has projected that each person would have their own version of what happens on their last day, and the book presents the story of an average man. The book begins with a scene at a house in Chennai, where we meet Vijay Kumar, a man who wakes up and looks at an empty bed. He turns and sees his wife sleeping peacefully in his bed, and smiles to himself: this is how he wanted it to be. His wife is an epileptic woman who was admitted into the hospital for treatment. The doctors had advised her husband to come and see her after she has been discharged. It is on this final day that the author will be meeting his wife for the last time before she died. She is in a deep dream state when he walks in, and he feels a shiver in his spine when he sees her. The plot of the book takes a twist when the wife dies unexpectedly, leaving Vijay alone with his thoughts. He begins narrating what happens to him from this day onwards, chronologically starting from the time he sees his wife again after release from the hospital until death strikes. The title of the book says it all; the author is recounting 37 days of his life, each day being numbered. The first chapter begins with how Vijay meets his wife for the first time. The first chapter ends with Vijay's sister seeing her sister-in-law for the last time. The second chapter takes us through the next 37 days of Ajitha's life, as she recovers from her epilepsy and learns to live independently. Her husband goes to work every day, while she stays at home getting to know her daughter Kaveri better. She also gets acquainted with Vijay's friends and relatives who come home often during this period. cfa1e77820
